Sofia

Sofia is the cultural and economic centre of Bulgaria . Sofia is the city where you can get an idea of what Bulgaria is. Although being the biggest Bulgarian city, Sofia is not a megapolis like New York , Moscow or Berlin . In most cases your destination is within walking distance. The buses, trams, trolleys and underground lines cover the whole city and the surroundings, and the tolls for using public transport are symbolic.



The biggest stores, culture centres, financial institutions etc. are concentrated in the city center, which is 30 minutes car ride away from even the most distant parts of the city.

You can reach one of the best beaches in Europe – Sunny beach, Albena and Golden sands – are a 4 to 5 hours car ride. The top quality resorts like Bansko , Borovetz and Pamporovo are just a few hours away from Sofia . Istanbul , Athens and Thessalonica are several hundred kilometers away.
