Baja California is set in the far northwest of México. Its shores are washed by the Pacific Ocean (to the west) and by the Sea of Cortéz (to the east). It borders on Sonora to the northeast, Baja California Sur to the south and the North American state of California to the north.
This unique region is one of the most interesting and diverse geographical areas of the world! The peninsula is home to some of the earth’s most beautiful deserts, along with semi-tropical and mountainous regions, pine forests, and hundreds of miles of untouched beaches and coastline. The landscapes are unusual, since the blue shades of the sea contrast with the desert and its steeply sloping mountain ranges covered with cactus. This strip of land contains fertile valleys and gorgeous beaches; its terrestrial and marine life are extremely varied while its wines and seafood are among the best in the country. Additionally, the region offers plenty of eco-tourism activities, surfing, fishing, golfing and excellent seafood.
Baja California has a population of approximately 2,487,367 inhabitants. This state has 4 municipalities; The biggest is Ensenada, with an area of more than 51,000 sq. km (19,690 sq. mi.). The total area of the Baja California state is 70,113 sq. km (27,070 sq. mi.), not including the insular territory. The Rosarito-Ensenada corridor enjoys Mediterranean weather year round, not exceeding 85 F and seldom less than 55 F. In the San Pedro Martir Mountains, the highest area of the state, the climate is mild in the summer and cold in the winter, with snow in the area of the astronomic observatory. In the desert and sandy zones to the south of Rosarito, the climate is very dry, extremely hot in summer, and has a wide temperature difference between day and night.
Baja Mexico Growth and Development
Mexico’s geographic location, natural beauty and low real estate prices are contributing to its emerging status as one of the premier real estate hubs in the Western world. There are currently over one million Americans living in Mexico, most of whom are retirees, with about 20 percent of them residing in the concentrated area of Baja California. The LIMRA (Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association) study conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau also estimated that 8,000 citizens turn 60 years old (baby boomers) every day, seizing a combined total of over $11 trillion in retirement savings.
According to www.bestretirementspots.com, Mexico is recognized as one of the most popular retirement destinations in the world. To further illustrate the growing popularity of the Mexico market, Donald Trump recently announced plans to build an ocean resort which will promote development and marketability in the area. Columnist, Nellie Day posted the October 5, 2006 article, "Trump Ventures Into Mexico" on globest.com, which explains how Trump’s realization of the Mexico market may lead more developers and investors south of the border.
