Esentepe, Cyprus
Esentepe is a beautiful and picturesque traditional village exuding an old-world Mediterranean charm that allures and captivates all who venture here. Nestled in the mountains, overlooking some of the most idyllic beaches and bays in Cyprus, Esentepe is only a 20 minute drive east from the historical harbour town of Kyrenia. Esentepe is presently the most popular area to buy property in North Cyprus.
Outside of Esentepe, the surrounding areas offer a diverse range of attractions for people of all ages and all tastes. A short distance from the town is Esentepe Beach, where golden sands stretch along the coastline towards the famous Alagadi Turtle Beach. Here, during the months of June and July you can see Green Turtles come ashore to nest and then watch their newly hatched babies make for freedom across the sands and into the clear Mediterranean Sea.
For families, the foothills of the Kyernia Mountains offer excitement and adventure. You can follow walking trails amongst the pine trees, go on long hikes or simply take a picnic and relax amongst the stunning scenery and elevated views over the sea.
Also nearby is the isolated 12th Century domed Antiphonitis Church. Originally a monastery, this spectacular medieval building bears 12th and 15th century frescoes on the pillars, walls and inside the dome. The church is understood to be the last of its style still standing in Cyprus.
Esentepe will soon benefit from the new eighteen hole International Korinium Esentepe Golf and Country Club which is due to open later this year. This is one of the most exciting developments to come to Northern Cyprus, being the first 18 hole international golf course in the North of Cyprus. Boasting a total of 21 holes, of which three are dedicated training academy holes; this spectacular new development is already attracting attention from all over the world. The total distance spans almost 7,000 metes. In addition to the 21 holes you’ll also find a 30 bay driving range and at the heart of the complex lies the new club house housing a 200 seat restaurant offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Kyrenia mountain range. For the less athletic there will be 37 electric golf carts available to help you over the 7,500 square meters of pathways.
East of Esentepe is Bahçeli, where planning has now been granted for the construction of The Baçheli Marina Complex, which will commence in September 2006, transforming the coastline into a magnificent 542 berth Marina, along with two hotels, shops, bars, restaurants and marina workshops.
