Wilson Bowden to create new urban centre in Rochdale

Wilson Bowden Developments has been invited by a council in Greater Manchester to build new apartments and a retail centre.

The £250 million development will include space for major department stores, restaurants, bars, parking, an arts centre and a public recreation space.

Although local people have already been consulted, a further consultation will take place early in 2009, with construction likely to start the following year.

Nick Richardson, managing director of Wilson Bowden Developments, said: "We have a major opportunity to achieve a transformational change for the town, a change that will vastly enhance the retail and leisure offer within the town.

"We are looking forward to working in the partnership in continuing to deliver Rochdale's vision as a thriving place for people to work, live and visit."

This is not the fist time that Wilson Bowden Developments has been commissioned to develop urban space in the Manchester area.

It was recently tasked with creating new central retail and leisure destinations in both Oldham and nearby Macclesfield.
