Retirees look for excitement in the Home Counties

Bustling towns and villages in the south-east are the most popular places for retirees to set up home, new research has shown.

Although coastal areas like Devon and Dorset are still favourites, retirees now want easy access to entertainment, museums, theatres and shops, according to a new survey by SmartNewHomes.com.

The number one destination is Surrey where prices range from £244,950 to £429,950 for one and two-bedroom apartments.

David Bexon, managing director of SmartNewHomes.com, said: "Areas that have been typically popular amongst retirees such as Devon and Dorset are still ranked in the top ten."

But the latest data shows that "bustling towns and villages of the Home Counties are the most highly ranked".

According to Bovis Homes, properties in the Home Counties and the London suburbs have been in demand for several years.

The firm once sold four retirement homes in Enfield in less than a week, reports the Daily Mail.
