Openshaw development 'on track'

Building work is continuing on the first phase of a large-scale redevelopment in east Manchester and the first phase is due for completion next autumn, it has been announced.

The first phase of the £65 million development in Toxteth Street, Openshaw will comprise 83 homes including 18 two-bedroom apartments and 65 two, three and four-bedroom houses.

Built by Lovell under the guidance of New East Manchester regeneration agency, the development will eventually consist of 390 two and three-storey townhouses, six bungalows and 36 two-bedroom apartments.

Lovell regional director Nigel Yates said: "This community-orientated new housing scheme has been a long time in the planning.

"It will make an important contribution to the wider regeneration of the area by answering the demand for high-quality new homes for sale and affordable rent locally."

Meanwhile, up to 300 Mancunians in Openshaw have been invited to sign up to a new home security initiative, whereby homes are fitted out with door frame guards, door bar restrictors, hinge bolts and window shock alarms.
